Natural Home Remedies for Thyroid Disease

Thyroid is a gland located towards the front part of the neck, just below the thyroid cartilage. Thyroid in fact is the largest endocrine gland in human body. It produces two types of hormones: thyroxin (T4) and triodothyronine (T3). These hormones help in the body's metabolism. The part called Hypothalamus in human brain produces the TRH or thyrotropin-releasing hormone. The TRH reaches the Pituitary gland, also situated in the brain. Under the impact of TRH, the pituitary gland then starts releasing TSH or thyroid stimulating hormones.

The TSH then reaches the thyroid gland, stimulating it to produce T4 and T3. A certain quantity of Iodine in diet also regulates the production of T4 and T3. The pituitary gland therefore regulates the production of hormones by thyroid gland. When the thyroid glands release too much hormones in to the blood, automatically TSH production by pituitary glands is reduced in order to lessen the production of T3 and T4 by the thyroid gland. However at times, some defect may occur in the system of regulation, leading to problems like Hyperthyroidism or Grave's disease (over production of thyroid hormones) and Hypothyroidism (low production of thyroid hormones).
